St Andrews Parish Council, dedicated to supporting the community, is proud to announce that The Ridge Coffee Club has been presented with this year’s Community Hero Award. The Ridge Coffee Club was presented with the award at the Full Council meeting held on 14th June 2023.

The Community Hero Award is bestowed upon individuals or organisations that have either carried out special or sterling service to the community or achieved something special for the community of the area of St Andrews. The Ridge Coffee Club, which has just celebrated its 5th birthday, is committed to bringing together residents of the local community. Established in June 2019 as a social club by Lyn and Brian Burrows, they quickly transitioned their purpose to a more constructive one by raising funds for a defibrillator. In just nine months, their efforts resulted in the successful purchase of the life-saving device.

Realising the ongoing maintenance responsibility of the defibrillator, The Ridge Coffee Club continued to fundraise and support Wiltshire Air Ambulance as well. Their dedicated efforts have led to an impressive achievement, with over £10,000 raised to date.

On accepting the award on behalf of the Ridge Coffee Club, Lyn Burrows said “I feel very privileged to accept this award. We have just celebrated our 5th anniversary which we couldn’t have done without the help of our community who regularly attend our coffee mornings. A big thank you to the Parish Council and Jean Blake who nominated us. Here’s to the next five years!”
