Cllr Vera Tomlinson, Chairman of St Andrews Parish Council has made the following statement:

St Andrews Parish Council has been made aware that an unauthorised traveller encampment was set up on Thursday 7th July 2022 on public open space at Diamond Jubilee Park in Redhouse. They have been joined by those that have been sited on public open space at Bergman Close in Abbey Meads.

Access was attempted on parish council owned land in Redhouse village centre supposedly because of the large flat area and proximity to the shops. Thankfully the recently installed earth mounds prevented this.

We have been informed that the travellers are here for a funeral in Pinehurst and hope that their stay will be short.

Swindon Borough Council as the landowner have been informed.

The parish council will monitor the situation closely and continue to liaise with Swindon Borough Council. If you see any other sites in the parish, please do let us know on the contact details below or for any other concerns please get in touch with the police on 101.
